“Live the Enduring Values”
“Live the Enduring Values”
It’s a phrase on a poster where I work. A cynical person might think of it as corporate propaganda. What are your “enduring values”, thou corporate communicator, thou motivator, thou expositor of exhortations? Atheism? Humanism? Evolutionary dogma? Political activism? Socialism? Constitutionalism? Government regulations? Welfare Programs?
What are your “enduring values” – intellectuals of the West?
Intellectuals in the West value evolutionary dogma. We must, by decree of the ruling class, teach it in our schools. And anyone in academia who dares question the veracity of evolutionary dogma shall be discredited as a heretic, de-platformed, and ultimately defrocked from his or her position as a contributor to the academic narrative. The great Dr. Jordan Peterson mixes evolutionary dogma with a Christian world view and treats it as if it were on the same footing as Einstein’s relativistic equations, Newton’s kinematics, or Galileo’s solar system. But wait, there’s a bonus round: evolutionary dogma produces its own set of “enduring values” which must never be questioned.
Advancement of the species. Who could question that our species isn’t advancing as we speak? Who doesn’t own a smart phone? Who among intellectuals doesn’t wish to drive a Tesla or a Prius? Need the Progressive make any other apologetic argument? Progressive government policies are required. And are there any who haven’t been assimilated? Only those who wish to remain ignorant – those who are fundamentally anti-science and anti-human.
And how do the makers of Star Wars sleep at night? The reprobates. Presuming to compete with Star Trek which is perhaps the most faithful and enduring expositor of what true advancement of the species ought to look like.
Survival of the fittest. Has there ever been a more enduring value than survival of the fittest? It is, obviously, built into our DNA. One must never question the veracity of evolutionary dogma, even though it cannot explain the existence of the eyeball, the complex mechanism by which blood clots in mammals, or the one-thousand-books worth of information built into every strand of DNA in your body (information cannot arise from an inanimate source or random processes.) And it remains an enduring value that “survival of the fittest” must never be described as the rationale behind eugenics (an enduring value of Margaret Sanger and founder of organizations which evolved into Planned Parenthood).
And of course the modern academic or scientist understands that if he or she wants a grant from the University or some ‘benevolent’ government agency such as the NSF, he or she must embrace the precepts of evolutionary dogma and the values which flow from her bosom.
What are your “enduring values” – political activist?
Ah, political activism – may thy talismans never cease to grace our lives! You must never admit it, but your ultimate goal and the only thing you truly value is power. You expend every ounce of your persuasive energy in that un-bending quest for the Ring of rings. You would, of course, use that power for the benefit of the marginalized in society. But you must, at the current time, rely solely on persuasion in democratic societies. There are, however, alternatives. Unelected bureaucrats have produced regulations choking the private sector. As they should. One must never let economic, social, or intellectual power stand in the way of political power. In this way we can see that the bureaucracy itself is an enduring value. Because regulations are our friend, even if they are the bane of entrepreneurial types, efficiency, and the working classes.
What are your “enduring values” – philosopher?
Stefan Molyneux’s “Universally Preferable Behavior” (UPB). A moral system built on a positivist epistemology, it attempts to meld Christian morality with humanism from a materialist world view. The Philosopher might be right in his exposition of positivism, but what has he added to our system of “enduring values” which cannot be derived from Christianity’s maxim to “love your neighbor as yourself”?
What are your “enduring values” – Democratic socialist?
You say you care about the rights of the little guy or the marginalized of society. But like any good political activist, you understand that one must virtue-signal if one is going to be effective. There is no other way in a democratic society. Someday, perhaps, a democratic socialist will rise up and be able to dispense with such inefficiencies and simply rule. For to rule is your enduring value. The world will be a better place once the Supreme Benefactor wields the power he or she needs to fight for equality of outcome in the face of the anti-scientific Neanderthals who dare oppose such things. Such deplorables don’t even feign to virtue signal! Which is why, perhaps, virtue-signaling might just be the archetype of all enduring values. How else can one be effective in one’s quest for the advancement of humanity?
What are your “enduring values” – Antifascist?
While identifying with progressives and other political activists, comparing the antifascist to your typical political activist is like comparing a Ninja warrior to a mall cop. Because fascism must be stopped. At. All. Costs. And you are the one to do it. There are no rules to this game, other than to ignore the real definition of fascism. One must never admit that fascism is a political system in which the means of production are allowed to be owned by the private sector, while the government regulates everything – including how much to produce, what to produce, how much to pay employees, and how much to charge for goods and services. The government as the be-all and end-all in our lives – forever! What greater enduring value could there be? And we know that the current administration (in 2019) is the definition of fascism. It must be resisted.
#resist!
Never mind the fact that the current administration has cut more regulations than any in history. Or perhaps mind that. Because regulations, like antifascism, are “enduring values.” Long live the government! And may the progressives in local law enforcement look the other way when we dole out fear and violence towards the deplorables who support the current “fascist” administration. Up is down, black is white, and there is no good or evil – only power. Truth be damned – “our cause is just!”
A leading columnist in the Deity of the West’s book once wrote, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of a sound mind.” But the power he talked about was the power of a servant. “He who would be greatest among you, must be servant of all.” Add to that the notion that there is no coercion (or fear) in Christ’s “Kingdom of Heaven” and maybe you can begin to see what an enduring value should look like. Perhaps my cynicism toward “enduring values” is not well-founded after all.
